Time Saver Tips
  • Burned and Baked on foods, Soak or boil a solution of 2 tbsp baking soda per qt of water in each pan. Let stand until particles are loosened, then wash as usual. Put a sheet of Bounce in the pan, fill with water, let sit overnight, and sponge clean. The antistatic agents apparently weaken the bond between the food and the pan while the fabric softening agents soften the baked-on food.
  • If you live in a cold climate with a furnace running often in winter, make sure you change your furnace filters monthly. If you write the date on it, you won't forget when it was replaced! This will help cut down on the dust in your home, and your furnace won't have to work so hard.
  • To clean a sink, place paper towels over the bottom of sink, saturate with bleach and let stand 30 minutes before rinsing.
  • Use toothpaste or soft scrub products to remove crayon from walls. Allow to set for 15 minutes.
  • Coat your dustpan with wax so dirt slides off easily.
  • Clean woodwork with cold tea for a sparkle and shine.
  • You'll save time by sorting the silverware as you put in the the dishtray, whether you have a dishwasher or do dishes by hand,. You can sort it when you're hand washing it, too-just separate it in the dish drain.
  • Sanitize bathtub toys and toothbrushes in the dishwasher.
  • As you set your clocks back in the spring and fall, be sure to test your smoke alarms and flip over your mattresses, too.

ALTERNATIVE CLEANER MIGHT MAKE YOU SCRUB MORE FOR LESS

Careful planning can eliminate the peaks in household work

One of the reasons that we keep so much clutter is "we might can use it sometime", right? Well, my supposition is that "what is the use of keeping it when you can't find it when you need it!!" So, my goal with all of my material possessions is to be able to lay my hands on them when I need them. - Jann author of from C.H.A.OS. to C.A.L.M.© http://members.tripod.com/Skamomma/ccc.html

(ARA) - The busy holiday season combined with no free time and a dirty home create a recipe for maid service help. According to American Demographics magazine, by the year 2000, more than 10 million households will hire household help. That's 17 percent of American households!
But before you pick up that phone to schedule an appointment, it's important to know whom you are letting into your home. "Customers want service they can trust" said Janet Nelson, spokesperson for THE MAIDS International.

Tips for homeowners to follow before hiring a maid service:

    - Bonding: Make sure the company is bonded. Should a theft occur, you need to be protected. Some companies, if they are bonded at all, protect only themselves, not the consumer.
    - Insurance: Make sure the company is insured. If a maid slips and falls while cleaning the shower, your home owner's policy might not cover the incident.
    - References: Make sure the company is reliable. Ask for references and a work history.
    - Screening and hiring: Ask if employees' references are checked and if their residence status is confirmed. A professional company will screen each employee for honesty and dependability.
    - Cleaning products and equipment: Some independent housekeepers as well as some services expect you to supply all cleaning products and equipment. Check out what's included with your house cleaning.
    - Guarantee: Make sure the service is backed by a written satisfaction guarantee.
    - Taxes: Make sure you don't break any tax laws. If you pay a housekeeper or maid at least $1000 per year, the law requires you to pay social security and other taxes on that person. Most maid service companies withhold taxes for their employees, but check to make sure. For more information about household employee taxes, call the Internal Revenue Service at 1-800-829-1040. "Our franchise owners go to great lengths to gain and ensure the trust of their customers. THE MAIDS' owners screen employees during the interview process; do thorough background checks; use a four-person supervised cleaning team, and keep customers' keys computer coded." THE MAIDS is one of the oldest and largest professional residential maid services in the nation. They were established in 1979 and serve more than 400 markets in the U.S. and Canada.
