Royal Rules of Stain Removal from the Queen of Clean
(FeatureSource) - The #1 New York Times bestselling author of "Talking Dirty with the The Queen of Clean Queen of Clean" is now ready to air her dirty laundry in public with Talking Dirty Laundry With The Queen of Clean .
Linda Cobb has taught millions the no-hassle way to clean house - and now she turns attention toward the one room in which there's never an end in sight: the laundry room. Armed with her no-nonsense tips and never-ending know-how, Cobb makes wash day loads of fun.
Now without further ado, here are the Queen of Clean's Royal Rules of Stain Removal.
-Test the spot remover on a hidden or inconspicuous area of the fabric before you proceed.
-Approach the stain from the wrong side of the fabric. Put a pad of paper toweling under the offending spot as you work. This will help to blot the stain.
-Always blot, never rub! Rubbing will spread the spot and harm the fabric
-Do not iron or apply heat to spots or stains. Heat will set the stain and you will never be able to remove it.
-If you don't know what caused the stain, start with the weakest and simplest stain removal method.
-Make sure to consider the fabric as well as the stain.
-Remember, the faster you react to a spill or spot, the better your chances of removing it completely.
-Directing a hairdryer at a freshly blotted spot will help it to dry without a ring.

Homemade Spot Removers and Cleaners
(FeatureSource) - All hail The Queen of Clean , for whom no cleaning tip is too dirty or too messy. The # 1 New York Times bestselling author of Talking Dirty Laundry With The Queen of Clean is now ready to air her dirty laundry in public
Famous for her home remedies, the Queen of Clean teaches us that some of the best spot and stain removers are probably in our own cupboard. Some of these staples include:
-Baking soda: great for removing odors
-Dishwashing liquid: a wonderful spotter, used undiluted on tough stains
-Lemon juice: nature's bleach and disinfectant
-Hydrogen peroxide: three-percent hydrogen peroxide is great for removing blood stains
-Shampoo: great for treating ring-around-the-collar, mud, and cosmetic stains
-WD-40 Lubricant: This is your answer to nasty grease stains and oil stains on clothes
-White vinegar: a great spotter for suede
Plus, the following natural cleaning remedies can be made for pennies - and in many instances work better than their store bought counterparts. Always begin with a clean spray and/or squeeze bottle and make sure to label all products you make, what they contain, and their purpose:
To Remove Beverage, Fruit and Grass: Combine equal portions of: White vinegar liquid dishwashing soap Water Shake well and work the solution into the spot. Let stand a few minutes and then launder as usual.
A General All-Purpose Laundry Spotter: Combine the following to make this generic spotter that works on a wide array of stains: 1 part rubbing alcohol 2 parts water If you use a large spray bottle you can add 1 bottle of alcohol and 2 of the alcohol bottles filled with water. Spray this on spots and spills, wait a few minutes, and then launder as usual.
Non-oily Stain Remover Combine equal portions of the following ingredients: Ammonia Liquid dishwashing soap Water Shake well, and work the solution into the spot. Let stand a few minutes and flush with water. The solution works well on stains such as, milk, blood, perspiration, and urine. Do not use on washable wool, silk, spandex, acrylic and acetate.
Oily Stain Remover Combine the following: 1 tablespoon glycerin 1 tablespoon liquid dishwashing soap 8 tablespoons of water Work the solution into grease and oil stains. Let sit a few minutes, flush with water and launder as usual. These spotters are for washable fabric only. When in doubt, test first!

Seven Simple Cleaning Tips for the Bathroom
(ARA) - No room in the house gets dirty faster than the bathroom. When you consider the busy traffic of an entire household, and the tough dirt that accumulates throughout the day, it's no wonder that bathroom cleaning can give pause to even the heartiest of homemakers.
Tips to make cleaning easier
For more tips and information contact Gerry Luepke at (800)284-2023
1) Gather up the supplies that pertain to the area you are cleaning:
- Clean rags, a soft sponge, toilet bowl brush
- Rubber gloves
- A multi-purpose glass cleaner
- A special product for toilet bowl cleaning
- A specialty product designed to clean mineral deposits, such as Professional Strength Lime-a-Way Lime, Calcium, and Rust Cleaner.
- A product for removing mildew
Note: Know your surfaces: with all the time and money people spend on bathroom fixtures, being aware of which products are safe for certain surfaces is very important. Be careful of using cleaning products on marble, granite, slate, terrazzo and natural stone surfaces. The best advice, according to Luepke, is when in doubt, test it out. Use the product according to instructions and test a small area hidden from view. Evaluate your results after rinsing the area and letting it dry.
2) The removal of mineral deposits from faucets, showers, bathtubs, and toilet bowls is one of the most important jobs when cleaning the bathroom. You will recognize these deposits as either a white film, a crusty scale or rusty colored stains. The primary cause of the build-up of these minerals is hard water.
According to Luepke, nearly 9 out of 10 households have some degree of hard water. With gallons of water passing through the bathroom everyday, stains and rust can develop quickly and heavily. "The removal of these minerals is fast and easy with a product like Lime-a-Way, which is safe for septic tanks and plumbing systems." Luepke notes the following areas and objects as ones to target
- Shower doors-To remove stains and film. Lime-a-Way will also remove buildup from vinyl shower curtains.
- Shower heads-Detach the showerhead and soak in Lime-a-Way. Rinse and replace the showerhead back into the shower.
- Sink/faucet screens-Remove the screen and soak in Lime-a-Way, rinse and replace, (works great on kitchen and laundry sinks too).
- Chrome faucets-Spray with Lime-a-Way and replace the shine to dulling faucets. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth.
- Spray Lime-a-Way on just about any surface that has hard water stains (but remember, when in doubt, try it out).
- Clean or replace soap dishes or dispensers as well.
3) Use Lime-a-Way Toilet Bowl Cleaner to remove rust and hard water stains. Using the unique curved neck on Lime-a-Way Toilet Bowl Cleaner, dispense the product under the toilet bowl rim. The product will seep down the sides of the toilet bowl coating it evenly. Brush with a toilet brush and flush to rinse.
4) As long as you are cleaning the shower, take time to combat mildew Mildew builds up in showers and on many vinyl shower curtains (as well as bathroom window curtains).
To wash away mildew on shower tiles and shower curtain liners, use a special cleaning agent, such as Scrub Free Mildew Remover. Follow the directions on the product's container and put it away as soon as you are finished. Like all cleaning products, remember to store it away from children and pets. Clean up any spills as soon as possible.
5) Take this time to wash or replace the toothbrush holder (many are dishwasher safe).
6) Finish off your cleaning by spraying areas with a multi-purpose glass cleaner. Wipe off the areas and rinse well. Don't miss sink splashes or toilet bases. Also, dust off photos and clean decorations.
7) Clean the floors last. Sweep or vacuum first, use a multi-purpose bathroom or everyday cleaner and a mop or sponge to clean tile or other flooring surface. Most bathroom rugs are machine washable and certainly worth the extra load of laundry.
